ISDN? Yes, I thought the same thing when I first saw the letters. It’s not as hard as people think though. ISDN is simply short for Integrated Services Digital Network. ISDN is a circuit switch telephone system that allows digital transmissions of voice and data over regular copper wires giving better quality and higher speeds. ISDN breaks down switch connections so you can do a lot more.
Advantages and disadvantages of ISDN are obvious, but let’s look deeper into both. One of the advantages is that ISDN has many competitors that can do what they do at a lot faster speed. In the future this could make ISDN obsolete. ISDN does have advantages to such as they can deliver faster speeds and great deliver of data than older systems that are in use. Broadband cable has really put a big dent into ISDN. Cable can deliver a product so much faster and at a fair price it looks like it won’t take long before ISDN is gone. It’s a lot like dial-up in the way it has been overtaken by other ways to do it better and faster. Whats the future for ISDN? Very good question and let’s see if we can answer that for you. First and foremost ISDN will still be around for a while, but I just don’t know how long though. Broadband cable has really been making inroads and that’s the biggest threat to ISDN. Broadband telephone is another technology that has been hurting ISDN. Many things such as the examples above will continue to take market share away from ISDN. I think it will be around for a while though. I cite as an example dial-up on the internet is still alive and well. Many companies still offer dial-up as an option so ISDN does have so future. Just not as much as it once did. ISDN is still a viable option if it’s your only option. People always seem to want the best and most people will pay for it no matter what it costs so this has hurt ISDN. I think that won’t stop for a while either. Look for ISDN to be around just not as much as it use to be. ISDN has been around for a while and hopefully we won’t have it disappear right away as that would be a lost until more things were in place first.
