When I first got on the internet and I was a little naive as I thought dial-up was so fast, but I soon learn what a hassle dial-up could be. Free dial up internet was my next mistake as I thought I could get something free and it would work just as well, boy was I wrong. Where is the future of dial up, or does it have a future? Let’s take a look at it.
Dail up in my opinion really doesn’t have much of a future as newer connections such as cable and DSL will replace dial up. Even though basically DSL does use a phone jack and makes dial up faster I just don’t see DSL competing with cable connections. Dial up has died in most major cities, but is still really big in rural areas. The reason is cable connections are not available everywhere so dial up is still the choice of connections in a lot of places. One option that many companies are offering which should prolong dial up’s life is high speed dial up. By having faster dial up speed people will stay with it for awhile. Dail up does have one thing going for it though and that is the very low price. Many providers sell it to you for less than 10.00 dollars a month. That will keep a lot of people in the dial up industry for some time. The bottom line though dial up is going to die a slow death and there is nothing we can really do about it. New and faster connections like cable has put it in a really bad position and that won’t change anytime soon. Dial up I think will still have a following and continue to be used, just not as often as it use to be. Hopefully people can understand that dial up will be ending eventually and they will have to embrace new technology and sometimes thats very hard to accomplish with certain people. When people get set in their ways it’s hard for them to try new things even if it’s for their own good. Dial up was my first way to connect to the internet so I always will have a soft spot for it no matter what. So many good memories come from dial up, but like everything it’s time to move on.
